You Are Powerful Beyond Measure
Many of you will have known me to be quite pragmatic in my writing. But as Shakespeare’s title character Hamlet put it; “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” Suffice it to say, that I have some experiences, beliefs and insights that may be considered a little bit ‘out there’ by some.
I have read in some (apparently non-fiction) books, that the Earth is known throughout the Universe as ‘The Planet of Sorrows.’ I don’t feel that we need to verify this with any evidence, as we live here and we know what life on the planet Earth can be like. Regardless of whether the nickname for the Earth has an extra-terrestrial origin, it is indeed an apt name.
Our conditions for life on this planet are extremely favourable in terms of weather, temperature, water, oxygen and even food. In fact, this place is a paradise compared with life on Mars, for example.
Imagine if you were the only human living here. You wouldn’t have access to any form of technology for any length of time. Eventually that would all come to pass. But you would have access to food, shelter, water (and uncrowded waves if you like surfing) and rudimentary forms of technology. The natural world would thrive and you would be living in a paradise and while some would argue it would be lonely, it would be paradise nonetheless.
Why on Earth then, would we refer to this place as ‘The Planet of Sorrows’? It is because we live here with other people. We live here with billions of other people. We live here under the influence of governments and institutions. We live here under the leadership, rules and restrictions of people who are wise elders. Oh, I am sorry; that is wishful thinking. I meant people who have their own agendas.
Several years ago, I thought we were living in a society that is awakening. Actually, I still believe that people are awakening, now more than ever but I was referring to our system of government. I believed that our government was bound by laws and ethics that served an awakening humanity, as we had moved far away from the dark ages. While I had always been discerning about our two major political parties that seemed to get into office no matter how much I voted for independents, I am now more alert than ever.
The atrocities that this government has committed have surprised me and it seems that whilst the people are awakening, the government has been falling into slumber. The senate hearings that I have observed are shocking, as these people appear to be no more mature than schoolyard bullies. And these are the ones who are making our policies and creating our laws and mandates. Now, I don’t want to get too political here. I have nowhere near enough political knowledge to expertly comment on the subject.
There are and have always been dark times upon the Earth. Nothing is different right now. There are many distractions and there is a great deal of conflicting information flying about the place on online platforms, the majority of which, is having the effect of creating confusion and exhaustion. Have you ever noticed that your children are cunning enough to wait until you’re tired to demand the things that they want? They do this because you are too exhausted to fight them and are much more likely to be compliant. Why on Earth would anyone want to confuse and exhaust the masses? But I digress.
You are so much more powerful than you realise. And this is almost the time to share with you the wild things that are not dreamt of in your philosophy.
Just briefly, however, here is the pragmatic version of why you are powerful; you are a consumer. You dictate what exists in this world by your purchasing choices. You finance companies and governments with your purchasing choices. You supply the elite with their income by your purchasing choices.
What would happen (and this is just an extreme version to illustrate my point) if every awakening human being on the planet Earth (assuming that this is everybody right now because we all know that something smells fishy) decided, in unison, to not purchase anything from any large company at all? Think about it for a moment. What would happen to big business? What would happen to the shareholders? What would happen to governments? What could possibly be done about it? The people are not doing anything wrong, they’re just saying, for example, ‘no, I don’t wish to purchase from that fast food chain anymore.’
One possibility is that if everyone decided to move away from big business, big tech. and a disposable society, if everyone became resourceful, thrifty, content, overjoyed with the arising of consciousness from within, in a state of bliss with their mere existence, consumerism would die. People would peacefully set about living in a veritable eutopia and would become completely independent, free of the system and free of control. The governments, military and police would have no power. Sure, they could tyrannise people. But to what end? Financial gain would actually be meaningless and useless if everybody (and it would really have to be everybody) stood together in unison for the end of consumerism.
I understand of course, that this would require every person alive to suddenly and radically adopt a different way of life and to not be afraid of any repercussions, such as the collapse of the economy. Therefore, this is completely unrealistic. But just know this; as a consumer, your choices are extremely powerful. Do some research into who owns the companies that you support financially. If you do not agree with the ethics of those companies, then seek to take your finances elsewhere.
Now to the really radical part of this blog. I was once working in a call centre for a large food company in Sydney. It was an entry-level position as a Food Technologist and Nutritionist and I was the first point of contact for disgruntled customers. I was a young woman at the time and I was not particularly mature. I was sensitive and highly reactive. I was also on the spiritual path and had begun my journey of awakening, which was brutal at times. I attribute this heightened sensitivity to my meditation practices (heightened awareness) and a heavy burden of past pain.
Late one afternoon, when my boss was at a meeting, I had an altercation with a customer. It ended up being a yelling match between the two of us. We each thought the other person was being unreasonable. The customer then decided to play a card that I was terrified of at the time; she asked “what is your name?” with the implication being that she would report me to my superior. I gave her my full name in a defiant and bold tone. After she hung up the phone, however, my bravado was immediately replaced with anxiety. I was certain that I would lose my job.
When I was on my way home, my mind was still obsessing over the incident. As I sat in my car in the usual evening traffic jam, I noticed that I had a knot of fear in my stomach. According to my spiritual teachings, I knew that fear was an indicator that I was not in alignment with the truth of the situation. I took a deep breath into the area of my stomach and as I breathed out, I released the tension and softened a little. I took several more deep, conscious breaths whilst sitting in the traffic and then I projected my attention towards the customer.
To my surprise I could fully sense her energy, as if she was there, right before me. But this time, I saw her differently. She was all wound up and was experiencing a lot of stress and anxiety. I knew that she felt her life was a mess at that time. I felt it as if I were her and she were me. In fact, at that time, we were more alike than I had previously noticed.
My heart completely opened to her. It was as if I was seeing her for the first time. I felt so horrible for ever having become defensive and for resisting her. I felt absolute love and compassion for her, empathy even. I cried and cried. And yes, the traffic was that bad that I could sit there crying and crying.
Before too long, the tears passed and peace was all that remained. I apologised to her, inwardly. I was not worried about the consequences anymore, should she report me to my boss. I felt I deserved it. But at that very moment I sensed that she had also completely let the incident go. I am certain that she was also crying, releasing and healing. No complaint was ever made about me from that day.
On that day, I realised how powerful we are, even at a distance, especially at a distance. You may not believe this, and that is okay, but essentially, we are all one. We are all of the same source. And in the grand scheme of things, nothing really matters.
We will all die one day. Rachel Blacker, will never be here again on this Earth, but the consciousness that animates my form is eternal. It is the same consciousness that animated Mother Theresa and Adolf Hitler. When I am in touch with this spaciousness within, the intelligence that animates all forms, I know that I am never under threat. I am assured, always. I have nothing and I am nothing and at the same time I have everything and I am everything.
There is a greater and more powerful force at play on this planet that even the elite do not understand. They do not yet know where true power lies. They do not know their oneness with all of life, both manifest and unmanifest. They do not understand the forces of creation and destruction, that they are of the one source and the one ‘life.’ They do not understand that the darkness can be embodied but is merely the absence of the light. If there were only darkness, there could be no darkness. It is the contrast with light, or rather, the existence (standing out) of light, that enables the darkness to exist. Therefore, all of physical life is but a play of multiple forces interacting, reacting, evolving and becoming. Both the light and the dark cannot exist without the other.
That which is exposed to the light, becomes the light. And herein lies your power. You are a powerful one. You are a wielder of the light. You are at times, affected by that which is not the light, of course. But out of these difficulties and trials new understandings, new growth and awakenings take place. Do not be so quick to see the evils in this world. Seek instead to see beyond.
There is a seed of light within every human being. When you see this, you extract this out of each and every tyrant, out of each and every saint. Do not be afraid. Fear is the opposite of all that you are. Be here and now. Be present. Be still. In your stillness, the truth of all that you are will become apparent. Stand firm in your knowing. Seek to find that which is the truth within you. You are the light; you are the way and you are the truth. You are a magnificent and powerful creator. Intend often to see the light of every being igniting and burning brighter. Your intentions and your thoughts really are that powerful.
